    All Music Guide Review

Known primarily as the frontman for '80s British/Scottish prog rock band Marillion (which scored a massive European hit with its 1985 album Misplaced Childhood), vocalist Fish split from the group in 1988 and began a checkered solo career. It started off promisingly a year later with the critically acclaimed Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors, but soon the pressures and stress of a bad recording contract with EMI forced the singer off the path of what seemed to be leading to certain solo success. After switching to Polydor, albums such as Internal Exile and Songs from the Mirror were hit-or-miss affairs, yet Fish always retained a sizable audience for his live shows. Since most of these albums were hard to track down stateside, Roadrunner Records stepped in to reissue all of the albums before the end of 1999. To start things off, Fish's very first best-of compilation, Kettle of Fish, appeared in late 1998. Consisting of such fan favorites as "Just Good Friends," "Big Wedge," and "Brother 52," Kettle of Fish will help bring Fish/Marillion fans up to date with his solo career.
