    All Music Guide Review

Greatest Hits, originally released in 2001, puts an alternate spin on Stellar Fungk: The Best of Slave (released seven years prior on Rhino). Unlike Stellar Fungk, it doesn't incorporate any of Steve Arrington's solo singles; it sticks strictly to the Slave catalog proper, opting to cut off at 1981's Show Time while adding a pair of superfluous remixes. "The Party Song" and "Foxy Lady (Funky Lady)" are the only two chart hits left off, but neither are missed. Slave had a lot of spectacular album material that rarely made it to the radio (their three-album run from 1979 through 1981 is full of it), and this set does an admirable job of providing a sampling. Choosing between this and Stellar Fungk is a toss-up. If you want Arrington's biggest hits outside of Slave (and you do need them in some form), go with Stellar Fungk. But if you'd rather go a little deeper into the band's catalog, go with this disc. [Greatest Hits was re-released in 2004 with different artwork.] ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
