Lyrics from Perfecto Chills, Vol. 2
All Music Guide Review
Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label benefits from a healthy checkbook that can license pretty much anything it wants. That helps put the star power in the track listing, but what really benefits the listener is Perfecto's impeccable taste when it comes to more mainstream chill. There's no filler on Perfecto Chills, Vol. 2, an unmixed collection of downbeat and downtempo with a penchant for the cinematic and the slick. There's no ambient about it; these are big, elaborate numbers for the most part, but they're gentle and often heavenly. Robert Smith's voice is the most dissonant noise on the collection, but on the opening "Perfect Blue Sky" Junkie XL's surrounded him with a spacy and soft beat to even things out. Oakenfold's "Nixon's Spirit," with narration from Hunter S. Thompson, finds a better home on this collection than it had on Oakie's moderate Bunkka, but it's the vivid remix of Nelly Furtado's "Try" that steals the show on disc one. The Egg's soulful "Say You Will" is nearly as good and just one of the harder to find tracks that the collection rounds up. Containing more than a few of the usual chill suspects (Lamb, Zero 7, Gotan Project), disc two is less inspired but there's pillow after pillow of sweet and delicious bliss, and you can't argue with that. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
