The first volume of WXRT's Live from the Archive series features a cross-section of songs and artists long associated with the Chicago FM outlet, from Del Amitri's "Always the Last to Know" -- appearing here in gentle, acoustic form -- to the John Lee Hooker classic "Boom Boom," which he performs to the throaty screams and stomping of a raucous live audience. Elsewhere Chicagoan Michael McDermott contributes his Gin Blossoms-esque "Wall I Must Climb," Paul Westerberg slurs his way amicably through "I Will Dare," and the Gin Blossoms themselves do up a solidly urgent live version of "Hey Jealousy." ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
