Robyn Hitchcock

This brief EP features two strong songs from Robyn Hitchcock's album Queen Elvis. The version of "Madonna of the Wasps" (an attractive, yearning R.E.M.-style song) given here is culled directly from this aforementioned disc. "One Long Pair of Eyes," however, is taken from a live performance in which the tune is given an intimate singer-songwriter treatment; this enjoyable number, featuring a warm, arching melody, is prefaced by one of Hitchcock's by-now patented nonsense prose rambles. An effective, if diffidently sung cover of Roxy Music's "More Than This" also appears in live voice/acoustic guitar manner. This likable release is worth hearing. ~ David Cleary, All Music Guide
