The two-part "Blockhead" single is the first thing Miguel Fierro released after moving from San Francisco to New York in 1996, and is a return of sorts to the lino-square roots of his youth. Following on the melodic, almost radio-friendly heels of his self-titled Asphodel LP, "Blockhead" switches into overdrive, presenting some of the most imposing new-style electro yet released on American shores. The first 12-inch splits its focus between over-the-top distorted beatbox-jungle and the West Coast breaks/electro-funk of Hardkiss or Uberzone, while the second dives headlong into fast, syncopated, next-millenium electro-funk, with diving kick bombs and layer after layer of twittering percussion immersed in Fierro's signature synth sheets. ~ Sean Cooper, All Music Guide
