Deborah Tranelli is a veteran actress and singer who loves music from many eras and styles, as her ability to adapt to the mood of any song is immediately apparent. Her rich alto effortlessly conveys the message of each piece as she is accompanied by a sympathetic group of musicians. She conveys her playful side in "A Lot of Livin' to Do" and in her coy duet with bassist Doug Romoff in the introduction to the decades-old standard "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home." Tranelli soars in the brisk bossa nova arrangement of the time-tested standard "The Way You Look Tonight" and the loping take of "It Was Written in the Stars," both of which were orchestrated by jazz pianist (and fellow cabaret singer) Billy Stritch. But Deborah Tranelli really shows off her stuff in the strutting, bluesy comic masterpiece "A Mattress in the Kitchen." ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide
