    All Music Guide Review

    There are more funk compilations on the market than you can shake a booty at. This particular one is aimed at the funk fan who is looking for the real deep down grooves that haven't been done to death. So we get James Brown doing the obscure Blind Man Can See It, Cymande dropping the inspirational bomb The Message, Kool and the Gang getting very evil with Funky Stuff/More Funky Stuff. Hey! That's a lot of funky stuff. But wait there's more! George McRae's sublime falsetto on I Get Lifted, Grant Green getting down to business on Ain't It Funky Now and Lyn Collins absolutely tearing out your heart on a live version of Do Your Thing. Damn funky! It's not fair, you just can't buy all the funk compliations bumping around out there unless you're a Rockafeller, so this is a good record to seek out once you have the funk essentials covered. ~ Tim Sendra , All Music Guide
