While her previous release, Blast the Human Flower, seemed to be an attempt to gain a wider audience, Timber Tongue leaves any pretensions about appealing to the masses behind. Including three instrumentals and one song with vocals, the style here can best be described as "tribal industrial." Rhythmic percussion intertwines with the distorted sounds of toys, various machines, and standard instrumentation to create a very dark, somewhat disturbing sound. "E.V.I.L. T." features Dax's voice, synthesized to the point where it sounds male, reciting words of recrimination, anger, and despair. A happy collection of songs this is not. While Dax should be praised for her willingness to experiment musically, this EP is only partially successful because of the repetitiveness of each song. Her earlier albums, while still very adventurous, offer much more variety and are a better starting point for those new to her music. ~ Rob Caldwell, All Music Guide
