Peter Rabbit

All Music Guide Review

Told on this sumptuous disc set of 32 singles is the story of Dee Jay and the Runaways, Iowa's first (and only) band to score a national hit with the novelty rocker "Peter Rabbit." But as this collection proves, the band had a depth and musicality that covered a lot of rock & roll bases. While their covers of R&B classics won't make anyone forget the originals, the songs all carry their own charm. Covers of other classic rockers from the '50s fare much better. The last four tracks feature the Chevelles, an early incarnation of the band. This is a nice chunk of Midwest rock & roll history. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide
