Other than an obscure set for Command in 1963, this was bassist Bob Haggart's first album as a leader, although he co-led many dates through the years with trumpeter Yank Lawson. Haggart leads an eight-piece group through ten swing and pre-swing standards, including "Mandy Make Up Your Mind," "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me," "Someday Sweetheart" and "The Sheik of Araby." In the supporting cast are such notables as the Bix Beiderbecke-inspired cornetist Tom Pletcher, clarinetist Tom Gwaltney, bass saxophonist Spencer Clark, and pianist Dill Jones. Easily recommended to Dixieland and mainstream fans, as are Haggart's two follow-up records for Jazzology. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
