    Lyrics from Eve's Bayou Collection

    All Music Guide Review

A mix of classic R&B oldies (Bobby Bland's "Turn on Your Love Light," Ray Charles' "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying," Etta James' "Sunday Kind of Love", Johnny Ace's "Anymore") with a bit of Cajun (Geno Delafose's "C'est Pas La Peine Bariller"), old-time jazz (Louis Armstrong's "Trouble in Mind"), and some unimpressive smooth modern soul by Erykah Badu (including "Child with the Blues," which was written and produced by Curtis Mayfield). The off-the-wall highlight has to be Sugar Boy Crawford's little-known "Overboard," a manic slice of New Orleans R&B/rock that was one of the rawest things ever released on the Chess label -- the band plays as though they're indeed trying to finish the tune before the ship sinks. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
