Elektra: the Album features a populist mix of brash modern rock similar to the soundtracks for Marvel-affiliated films like the Spider-Man series and Elektra's own parent film Daredevil. The set's heavy with bands from the Wind-Up stable, including Strata (lead single "Never There [She Stabs]"), Submersed, Finger Eleven, and 12 Stones. Evanescence's Amy Lee softens the mood with the previously unreleased piano ballad "Breathe No More", while the Donnas ("Everything is Wrong) and rising New York City outfit the Twenty-Twos (performing the fun Veruca Salt throwback "5 Years") give the collection some kicky pizzazz. Other Elektra contributors include the Creed scion Alter Bridge, emo flag wavers Taking Back Sunday, and the ever-earnest Switchfoot. The album also features work from up-and-comers Megan McCauley and Full Blown Rose, both of whom channel Evanescence's mix of passion and rock power. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
