    Blue Note Plays Sting is an obvious nod to the marketplace. It was produced, arranged and compiled by the legendary Bob Belden. The core band on this set includes Bobby Watson, Tim Hagans, Flavio Boltro, John Scofield, Freddie Hubbard, Rick Margitza, Belden, Mark Ledford, and Jimi Tunnell. The singers are a cream of the crop selection including Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves, Kirk Whalum and Cassandra Wilson. Musically, it sounds exactly as you'd expect it to: Belden's instrumental arrangements are overly sweet and flowery but most of the vocal performances are solid, including Elling's "Oh My God," Wilson's "Fragile," and Reeves' "Every Breath You Take." ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
