Appalachian Swing! by the Kentucky Colonels (featuring Clarence White) is one of those records that has simply refused to die. Issued without any promotion in 1964, it nonetheless went on to become one of a handful of contemporary standard bluegrass LPs, right up there with Flatt & Scruggs' Carnegie Hall live album. It survived being chopped down from 12 to ten songs for a budget-priced reissue on LP in the early 1980s, and has appeared at least twice before on CD. According to the annotation by veteran producer John Delgato, however, this release from early 2005 marks the first time that the original three-track studio master is being used as a source, and, as a result, the first time that the left and right channels in this vivid stereo recording actually sound right. The original 12 songs by the Kentucky Colonels have been extended with three tracks by Tut Taylor from the historically related (and long-thought-lost) album Dobro Country. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
