Though Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards have been around since 1987, it was only in 2005 that the network decided to release a companion CD of music popular with the tweens and young adults that watch the channel's programming. Most of Nickelodeon Kids Choice consists of mall-punk and teen pop, but the album features some of the best artists and singles in those styles, including Good Charlotte's "Predictable" and Skye Sweetnam's "Tangled up in Me," respectively. Several of the songs, like Britney Spears' "Everytime," Jessica Simpson's cover of "Take My Breath Away," Clay Aiken's "Invisible," and Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent" have been so omnipresent for so long that putting them on another pop collection hardly seems necessary (Clarkson's 2005 smash "Since You've Been Gone," for example, would've been a much better choice). Still, with tracks like Switchfoot's "Dare You to Move" and Alicia Keys' "Diary," the album does a decent job of showing where kids' minds and ears are at in 2005. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
