There are at least 14 volumes of this interesting series of artists on the Music Video Distributors imprint and Jazz Legends Live!, Vol. 13 has a few more frills than their Jazz Shots from the West Coast and Jazz Shots from the East Coast collections, but just barely. There are mini biographies, a discography and some website information, but what you are really getting is vintage footage so be happy with it. That being said, you can see Sam Moore sans Dave Prater do "I Thank You" and hear Chuck Mangione on a nice eight-minute-plus "Feel So Good." Be forewarned the source tapes are not pristine, but they aren't bootleg, either, and are worthy of finding room on your video shelf. Lee Ritenour sounds more science fiction mellow prog rock than jazz while Steve Miller is his bluesy original self from way back when. One sure wishes Quantum or MVD, the two companies involved in these releases, would add some creative liner notes and perhaps give dates, venues and some anecdotes regarding the music. The deficiency is annoying, but it's still worth having these performances despite the lo-fi presentation. ~ Joe Viglione, All Music Guide
