All Music Guide Review
Too Much Scratchie Makes You Itch is a budget-priced sampler from Scratchie Records, a subsidiary of Mercury founded by James Iha and Darcy of the Smashing Pumpkins. Comprised equally of previously unreleased tracks and (relatively) familiar items, the disc demonstrates that there's a lot of variety on Scratchie, ranging from dub and techno to post-grunge hard-rock and power-pop. Not everything here is successful (in fact, a lot of it is a little mediocre), but the best moments -- the Frogs' inspired weirdness, Pancho Krysztal's dancehall, Fondly's hooky pop, the Chainsaw Kittens' racket and the Fountains of Wayne's previously unreleased "Karpet King" -- justify the $4.99 retail price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
