Ten-Thirty on a Summer Night/An Afternoon in Company is the two-fer reissue of two of songwriter/filmmaker Richard Jobson's two spoken word albums from 1981 and 1986, respectively. Jobson made his mark as frontman and lyricist of the inimitable Scottish post-punk outfit the Skids, which also included the late Stuart Adamson (also of Big Country). Jobson's poetry is decidedly formalist and Eurocentric, and his speaking voice is gloriously clear, erudite, and elegant. These pieces may not appeal to rock fans very much (though the Durutti Column's Vini Reilly makes a guest appearance), but should impress fans of spoken word and those whose taste in poetry and prose runs to the romantic. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
