Submit Your ReviewThis Wounded Bird two-fer contains two titles that guitarist Eric Gale recorded for the Elektra Musician imprint in the early '80s. Blue Horizon was recorded in 1981 and issued in 1982, and was his first for the label. Featuring performances by Mark Mazur, Hugh Masekela, and Peter Schott, it contains a sweet, breezy, and funky style of laid-back jazz. The latter title, with Ralph MacDonald and Bob James, is a little more commercial, but deeply satisfying nonetheless. Gale's contributions as a sideman unfortunately sometimes overshadow his work as a leader, and these two recordings go a long way toward showcasing his signature guitar style. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
