In 2005 and 2006, U.K. record label Suss'd churned out a Salsoul reissue campaign that made other initiatives by similar labels look meek by comparison, reissuing over a dozen CD compilations and several remastered DJ/club friendly 12" singles. To Suss'd's credit, they took painstaking care in dissecting the label's catalog by style and influence. Salsoul Presents: Latin Funk Flavas takes a closer look at the Latin tinged side of Salsoul with a single-disc, 13-track offering of hard to find cuts not normally found on disco-funk compilations; a testament to just how deep Salsoul's catalog runs. It's nowhere close to being a definitive portrait of the label, but contributions from Joe Bataan ("The Bottle"), Candido ("Samba Funk") and of course the Salsoul Orchestra emphasize just how important Latin rhythms and melodies were to the development of New York's disco sound. Suss'd easily could have gone for more obvious selections found on other reissues, but to their credit, they avoided over-packaging and trimmed down the fat to deliver just the goods. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
