Its somewhat misleading title aside, the sublime Secret Love: A View on Folk Compiled by Jazzanova & Resoul focuses not on the coffeehouse troubadours you might expect but rather the more mellow tributaries of the contemporary neo-soul movement -- similar in sound and spirit to the folk-funk of the early 1970s, this is soul music at its most dreamy and nuanced, presented here with an emphasis on the kind of uniform mood and painstaking pacing that more haphazardly compiled sets miss altogether. As a whole, Secret Love makes for ideal Sunday morning listening -- the music is airy and spacious, but never too light for its own good. Highlights include 4hero's remake of Minnie Riperton's celestial "Les Fleurs," Marden Hill's "Bardot," Nicola Kramer's "Help Me" and Superimposers' "Would It Be Impossible." ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
