Paul Bacon

Paul Bacon's main connection to jazz was being the designer for many Riverside and Blue Note albums in the 1950s. A lover of trad jazz, Bacon made his recording debut in 1996 as both a vocalist and a comb player in the tradition of Red McKenzie. Joined by five excellent musicians (pianist/arranger Keith Ingham, trumpeter Peter Ecklund, Vince Giordano on bass sax and string bass, guitarist James Chirillo, and drummer Bill Reynolds), Bacon jams on a variety of 1930s-era standards and obscurities, including "The Lady's In Love With You," "With Plenty of Money and You," "If Dreams Come True" and "Let's Get Away from It All." A little reminiscent of a Marty Grosz date (although without Grosz's outrageous humor), this joyous small-group swing date should appeal to pre-bop fans. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
