K-Alexi

K-Alexi's 1997 LP for Nepenta showed why he's one of the best of the original Chicago DJs and producers still working. Besides knowing how to move a crowd while on the decks, he's also a master at producing tracks of his own, and this tightly crafted album of breakbeat acid-house displayed one of the old guard still producing with flair. The drum programs, turntable spinbacks, and crowd-raising samples on "Dance with Me," "Do You Want More?" and "You Get Down" bring back memories of classic Chicago nightspots. K-Alexi gets into afterhours material also, with a few downtempo jazzy tracks ("Effects of My High," "To Love a Spy") as well as breakbeat techno ("Bass & Drum Superbrew"). ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
