    A three-disc set collecting material from the five LPs recorded for Mille Plateaux between 1990 and 1996, The Geist of Alec Empire is an efficient distillation of the tremendously varied work Empire has done; from the faux easy-listening Hypermodern Jazz 2000.5 and the disturbed glacial fluctuations of Low on Ice, to the distorto-breakbeats on The Destroyer and Generation Star Wars. All in all, it's a fabulous collection that works much better than Empire's often schizophrenic solo albums. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
