Built around the song "Happy Heroes," which appeared on Dispepsi, this EP doesn't support the previous album, but instead functions as a separate entity. While Dispepsi took on the cola wars, Happy Heroes is instead built around Mertz, "the pill that helps you make up your mind." It's a strange follow-up, and wildly uneven. The recurring Mertz spokesperson, fictitious rock star Eddy Idle, is annoying at best. Further, the juxtaposition of an O.J.Simpson instructional video over top of the sounds of screaming in "O.J. and His Personal Trainer Kill Ron and Nicole" is far less clever than distasteful and inappropriate. Overall, though, there are some good moments. ~ Sean Carruthers, All Music Guide
