A tour-only single released in support of 1997's Dots and Loops trek, "Iron Man" gives the drummer some. A rare spotlight turn by Andy Ramsay, the song is among the most densely percussive and genuinely funky in the Stereolab canon, and even if it's a throwaway, there's any number of premium beats and breaks here for the enterprising DJ to exploit. The pastel melody of the flip side, "The Incredible He Woman," couches one of Laetitia Sadier's most oddball lyrics, depicting the Virgin Mary (or perhaps keyboardist Mary Hansen?) morphing into Jesus. Mmmm...sacrilegious. (Both sides later resurfaced on the Aluminum Tunes collection.) ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
