    All Music Guide Review

The first volume of EMI-Capitol Special Markets' three-disc Decades of Dance series, The '70s, is the best. Each volume contains 20 tracks from the EMI vaults. In this case, it's divded pretty evenly between disco, soul, New Wave, album rock and pop. Although it's debatable whether or not everything is danceable -- the Knack's "Good Girls Don't," Nick Gilder's "Hot Child in the City" and Andy Kim's "Rock Me Gently" will stop a party cold almost as quickly as The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway -- it remains a really good collection of '70s hits and near-hits, highlighted by Ike & Tina's "Up in Heah," Al Green's "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)," Ann Peebles' "I Can't Stand the Rain," Hot Chocolate's "Every 1's a Winner," Blondie's "Heart of Glass," Sweet's "Fox on the Run," Bobby Womack's "Lookin' for a Love," Tavares' "More Than a Woman" and Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose's "Treat Her Like a Lady." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
