Decades of Dance: The '80s, the second volume of EMI-Capitol Special Markets' three-disc Decades of Dance series, is much more uneven than its predecessor, even though it may be stylistically more consistent. There's less straight pop-rock on The '80s than there was on The '70s. Instead, it's pretty much devoted to dance-pop, club hits and danceable New Wave...The Cover Girls' "My Heart Skips a Beat," Paul Hardcastle's "19," Pretty Poison's "Catch Me I'm Falling," When In Rome's "The Promise," Go West's "We Close Our Eyes," Marc Almond's "Tears Run Ring, s," EU's "Da Butt," Three Man Island's "Jack the Lad," Dr. & the Medics' "Spirit in the Sky," Re-Flex's "The Politics of Dancing," Technotronic's "Pump up the Jam," Was (Not Was)'s "Walk the Dinosaur," Living in a Box's "Living in a Box" -- some of these will take listeners back to the glory days of the Reagan years, and others hold up pretty well on their own terms...Since it has some cuts that don't regularly show up on '80s hits collections, it may be of interest to some collectors... ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
