Best of Dance 2005 is a two-disc compilation from the German label ZYX that focusing on house, trance, and club-ready variations thereof. The first disc includes DJs @ Work's rather obvious house remake of the Outfield's "Your Love," the Bass Frog version of "Axel F," and "Hot Stuff" from Disco Babes (featuring the phaser keyboard effect so common in the European dance sound), as well as tracks from Pulsedriver, DJ Antoine, Chevallier, and Drill. Disc two includes ATB's smooth "Believe in Me" and Siria's mindless and genre-typical, but still pretty irresistible "Endless Summer." There's also a "Born to be Alive" re-version from Easy Jetters, Reflekt's "Need to Feel Loved," and "Rainbow" from Butterfly. Dance fans know what they're getting with Best of Dance 2005 -- it's not comprehensive, and with its focus on high-energy house and trance hybrids, it's pretty shallow. But as the sound of a typical club evening it's serviceable, and does include some of the bigger singles of the year. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
