    All Music Guide Review

    "Cricket" is the standout track for those who like their percussion extreme, high-pitched, and insect-themed. The rest is so-so, and the two suites ("Discussion in Percussion" and "Spanish Symphonique") are underwhelming. The usual Mercury percussionists/arrangers assist Carroll: Mike Simpson, Bobby Christian, and Carl Stevens. As is often the case with Mercury, Percussion in Hi-Fi features great behind-the-scenes talent stepping forward to do something safe, unchallenging, and ultimately disappointing. ~ Tony Wilds, All Music Guide
