The second volume of Parasol Records' Sweet Sixteen compilations begins with a previously unreleased version of "Unsound" by Bettie Serveert. The Dutch band shines, with Carol van Dijk's strong vocals leading the way. What follows is an eclectic mix of some of indie's lesser-known shining stars. On track two, Angie Heaton and Bob Kimbell offer up a folksy cover of the Buzzcocks' "Ever Fall in Love?," while Sarge checks in with the spunky "Detroit Sart-lite." National Skyline's previously unreleased track "Eurorak" shows the band's uncanny knack to produce subdued and emotional turns of phrase. Elk City's "Love's Like a Bomb" finds the New York pop trio producing a wonderfully graceful track that was recorded in a single take. Vitesse shows off their synth pop muscle on "When Nothing's Changed," while "Manhattan" by Alabama's Friends of Sound is a deliciously subtle pop ride. Bikeride covers Neil Diamond's "Look Out, Here Comes Tomorrow" on the 11th track, and Wolfie side project Busy Toby shine on the summery pop of "The Loneliest Life." The Beauty Shop chimes in with the dark and moody "Death March," and Toothpaste 2000 closes out the disc with the disco-esque "Delicious."
