Disgorge

Unavailable for some time after its original 1999 release on a small label, Disgorge's first album was reissued in 2006 by Unique Leader, which had previously released its follow-up, Consume the Forsaken. This earlier lineup of the group featured a different singer, Matti Way, whose guttural vocals are undistinguished: cookie-cutter Cookie Monster, you might say. Indeed, the album overall doesn't compare well to the best death metal, lacking both the speed and the technical polish that this brand of metal requires to be truly effective. She Lay Gutted is the work of a band that is so far merely going through the required motions for their chosen style. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide
