Over the past two decades, Vinnie Moore has worn the guitar virtuoso sash better than most former beauty queens of the genre. Comparisons to Yngwie are inevitable, but what sets Moore apart from Malmsteen is his humility and reverence for his fans, bandmates, and contemporaries, acting as the consummate professional with class and grace (he also lacks the Baroque conceptual fuss that Yngwie so casually flails about). This collection is an overview of his tenure on the legendary guitar-shredding Shrapanel imprint, culling several tracks from his 1986 debut recording, Mind's Eye (featuring Tony MacAlpine on keyboards), and his last two offerings: 1999's Maze and 2001's Defying Gravity. It's a great overview of a solid and fruitful career and an accessible compilation to serve as a reference point to explore his other works. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
