All Music Guide Review
A valuable investment for the curious or budget-conscious, Collectables Classics repackages four previous collections that together comprise a total of seven original LPs recorded by Chris Connor for Atlantic during the '50s and '60s. Leading off the set is one of her finest, a self-titled debut for Atlantic that brought her wide acclaim after her seminal Bethlehem records and featured a winning mix of plaintive torch songs and breezy uptempo standards. Most of her great Atlantic material is also here, including the full contents of He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, Free Spirits, I Miss You So, Witchcraft, the live Chris in Person, and her songbook Chris Connor Sings George Gershwin. The fact that it includes no Bethlehem material means that it's not the last word on Chris Connor -- This Is Chris is one of her two best moments on vinyl -- but Collectables Classics certainly comes close. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
