The Big Chill was a movie and a soundtrack aligned perfectly at the right place and right time. The movie vividly portrayed the baby-boom generation's midlife crisis and eventual acceptance into full-bloom maturity, and the soundtrack helped to catapult the ailing Motown imprint back into the forefront of the collective consciousness of pop culture. These three discs capture the essence of the mainstream musical wallpaper of that generation, featuring a hybrid of Motown and pop/rock favorites as well as album tracks that have aged well through time. Every single one of the 33 tracks spanning three discs is a hit, so there's no filler to fast-forward through. Chronicles: Music Inspired by the Big Chill is a nice, reasonably priced box set that will entertain and amuse the most casual of music fan, as well provide a nice portrait of the musical landscape of the '60s. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
