Lyrics from Sedated in the Eighties, Vol. 5

    All Music Guide Review

Capitol resumed their Sedated in the 80s series in 1998 with Vol. 5 Almost all of the tracks on the collection are licensed from the EMI vaults, which is a mixed blessing. There are certainly a large number of really good songs here, but there are a few weak cuts, too, since it relies on only one vault. Nevertheless, it's an entertaining listen, thanks to such '80s classics as Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy," Dwight Twilley's "Girls," Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot," the Motels' "Shame," Josie Cotton's "Johnny, Are You Queer?," Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," Pato Banton's "Don't Sniff Coke," Billy Idol's "Eyes Without a Face," Tears for Fears' "Shout," and Crowded House's "Something So Strong." For casual listeners wanting some or all of those songs on one disc, this is a fine choice. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
