      velvety sorrow

      The Devics play music with a deep, embedded melancholy, made tangible in the astounding voice of Sara Lov and the instrumentals of Dustin O'Halloran. Impossible to categorize them exactly, but I've heard them described as "torch music with the burners on low." The mood is dreamy and languid (hence the "low"), but the flame burns as fiercely. Romantic, nihilistic, sorrowful and all wrapped in the most luscious, velvety singing voice you can imagine.
