All Music Guide Review
Based on just the tracks listing, it's hard to discern what the point behind Polygram's budget collection Man to Woman: Men of Note Sing for a Cause is. The disc pulls 12 tracks from the Polygram/Mercury vaults, from all different styles and eras. What ties Hank Williams and Sting together? Well, these are all love songs from men to women, and they're all here to promote a good cause. Since it's a charity record, it's easy to be...well, charitable, to the record and its flaws. At its core, it's a collection of soft rock songs, with the occasional Hank detour. Several cuts fall flat, but Sting's "Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot," Eric Clapton's "Something Special," Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful," Peter Cetera's "You're the Inspiration," Rod Stewart's "I'd Rather Go Blind," Peter Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way" and, of course, Hank's "Hey Good Lookin'" lead the way, and will make generous listeners feel better about their charitable contribution of purchasing an uneven, but enjoyable, album. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
