The final single from Maladjusted, and Morrissey's final original release for the rest of the 1990s, "Satan Rejected My Soul" is a casual, fun number. The lyrics may be a touch serious here and there, but then again, the title is one of the most hilarious things Morrissey's cooked up yet. The music rocks along nicely enough; if not a deathless number, everyone sounds like they're having fun doing it. "Now I Am a Was" views the end of a romance or friendship with the appropriately downbeat air, though the delivery and bright music provides an interesting contrast. "This Is Not Your Country" ends things on an unsettling note, referring to the continuing troubles of Northern Ireland in its depiction of a militarized, fractured social and political landscape. Moody strings and soft acoustic guitar sets the overall tone as it continues for seven minutes and beyond. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
