    All Music Guide Review

Like the first two volumes, volumes three and four in the Mashin' Up the Nation ska compilation series were issued jointly on CD. Volume 3 concentrates on bands who appeared on the first volume in 1988 and have survived long enough to enjoy the third-wave revival, as well as including new outfits headed by individual musicians who appeared on the first volume; this category includes Bim Skala Bim, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Toasters, Gangster Fun, and Let's Go Bowling, among others. The fourth volume strives to present newer bands just making names for themselves as of 1998; as such, it isn't as consistent, but bands like Mobtown, Magadog, and Johnny Socko will be worth the time of ska fanatics. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
