Composer John Powell (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Bourne Supremacy) took on a tricky subject with director Paul Greengrass' ultra-realistic film about the fourth hijacked plane that was presumably intended to crash into the White House on September 11, 2001. Utilizing both Middle Eastern and Western themes, Powell's subtle score reflects both the weight of the day and the mourning that followed, building enormous arcs of tension with distant electronic beats, choral sections, and orchestra. It's minimalism at its most refined. By choosing atmosphere over melodrama, Powell and Greengrass have shown respect not only to the people whose loved ones died aboard United 93, but for the rest of the world who watched helplessly as the events unfolded. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
