Read My Sign leads off with "Hurry Up," a throbbing track whose opening suggests Frankie Goes to Hollywood covering The Who's "Eminence Front." The German trio mostly sounds like an alternative-edged Roxette. Like that band, there is something insidiously catchy about songs like the optimistic stomp of the title track and the breezy-sounding "Heyo." Lead singer Jana Gross' vocals could have been lifted from a Cranberries record, which suits the music well. Slower numbers like the solemn, moving "Imagine," with its anthemic chorus, and the Celtic-tinged march "Rescue Me" work every bit as well. The lyrics are long on affairs of the heart and Gross' delivery manages to give them mileage when they become trite. For trainspotters, Bell Book & Candle close this debut with "Destiny," a song written by Sheryl Crow. ~ Tom Demalon, All Music Guide
