Ollie Bown and Sam Britton burst from the 2-step tree line that dominated drum'n'bass in 1998 armed only with razor-sharp beats and a desire to work deep within the unexplored ether that had traditionally separated the movement from techno. The complex percussives and attitude typical of Photek or Source Direct found themselves caught within an intricate web of atmospherics more typical to the isolationism of James Plotkin or Berlin's Tresor record label. While the abstract key sequences and clanging orchestration of "Tirol Op Klompen" and "Xenotransplantation" were stalked by twisting beats, volleys of renegade snares ("Return 2") brought screams from stolen analogs.
