The soundtrack to David Dobkin's black comedy Clay Pigeons is notable for its strong country flavor, with an eclectic mix of tracks ranging from traditional favorites like Jimmy Wakely's "Moon Over Montana" and Don Gibson's "Sea of Heartbreak" to more contemporary tunes like the Old 97s' "Time Bomb" and Lyle Lovett's "Teach Me About Love." While not everything on the collection works -- the inclusion of Pat Boone's "Moody River" is too kitschy for words -- the record's overall aversion to the banal alt-rock hits and power ballads which pepper other contemporary soundtracks makes it a generally refreshing experience. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
