    The two-disc set Borealis includes one CD of house and breakbeat movers and one of harder techno. The former includes tracks by Motorbass ("Ezio"), Basement Jaxx ("Fly Life"), Kerri Chandler ("Cognac & Cigars"), and Bentley Rhythm Ace ("Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out"), while the latter hits with producers like Luke Slater ("Filter"), Cari Lekebusch ("As You Know It"), Plastikman ("Panikattack"), Adam Beyer ("4'54"), Jeff Mills ("The Bells"), and Laurent Garnier ("Flashback"). The difference in sounds from one disc to another is quite immense, but few other collections show the roots of dance music so clearly -- on one side, the soul/disco/house tradition and on the other, the Kraut/synth/techno progression. ~ Keith Farley, All Music Guide
