This 16 Greatest Hits series from Passport Audio is, for the price, tough to beat. This volume by Lloyd Price is a case in point. It begins with "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" just to get things rolling. While it's typical of budget comps to begin with the big hit, they usually conk after three or four cuts -- and they usually clock in at ten or 12 cuts max -- half of which are from the dead dogs files. This set hasn't a weak cut anywhere. The opener is followed with a killer version of "Stagger Lee," it struts, sweats and swaggers over to the tough soul-ish cuts like "Just Because," and "Try a Little Tenderness," and keeps on going. This is a fine and cheap introduction to the genius of Lloyd Price. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
