All Music Guide Review
Riding on the Dan Brown -The Da Vinci Code wave like half of the world, Bar De Lune released Da Vinci Lounge, which is, as the cover states, contains "music from the mysterious world of Leonardo da Vinci," and is divided into four sets -- each named after one of the artist's famous works -- "Vitruvian Man," Mona Lisa," "Virgin of the Rocks," and "The Last Supper." Apparently, Aphex Twin and Cheb Barouc have been around for 500 years, as both of them, plus 15 or so other electronica artists, are included on the two-disc set. In fact, there are only two actual religious pieces included, everything else falling into that vaguely mystical, ethereal, new-agey realm that is presumed to most accurately promote studying spirituality. Da Vinci Lounge is most certainly a downtempo, relaxing album, but if it will really aid you in exploring the complexities of the Renaissance artist's mind, well, that's asking for a bit too much suspension of reality. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
