When you get right down to it, just about any Jerry Lee Lewis disc can be recommended on some level. For over six decades the killer has consistently made great records. The same can't be said of the way in which JLL material is presented to the public; separating the music from the wealth of reissues can be daunting. The Varese label's compilation Killer Rock 'n' Roll features 18 tracks recorded in the '50s for the legendary Sun studio in Memphis. All the usual suspects are here, including "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," "Great Balls of Fire," "Breathless," and "High School Confidential." Although this isn't a bad budget-priced disc, there are far better collections available, offering more songs and better sound for not much more money. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
