On this album all of Marco Borsato's greatest hits since 1994's Marco up until 2002's Luid en Duidelijk are collected. Consequently, there are no Italian songs here, only Dutch ones, beginning with the translations of the early Dutch years, "Margherita," and culminating with many of his collaborations with composer John Ewbank and 2002 single "Lopen Op Het Water" with Sita. His other most well known single, "Wereld Zonder Jou," a collaboration sung with Trijntje Oosterhuis, is also included. There are no great songs left out, although some could argue that "Iemand Zoals Jij" should have been included in the single-disc version over a song like "Speeltuin." What Onderweg most clearly demonstrates is the consistency that Borsato has shown over the years, and his ability to create a fusion between dramatics, romanticism, and accessibility -- that is: to speak to a wide audience without ever really going over the top, apart from his smash hit "Dromen Zijn Bedrog," also included here, that is. ~ Philip D.
